Pat's Place is a straightforward, no-frills cafe nestled close to Scarborough Hospital that serves as a practical pit stop for hospital staff, visitors, and locals seeking comfort food without fuss. The atmosphere is calm and welcoming, a quiet little break from the clinical environment nearby. It’s the kind of spot where familiarity grows over time, especially for those linked to the hospital community.

The seating arrangement offers good space between tables, allowing for relaxed conversation or a peaceful moment alone, which can be a rare find in busy hospital-adjacent venues. Large windows provide natural light and ventilation, making it feel airy despite its utilitarian surroundings.

Pat’s Place is best known for its hearty, budget-friendly meals that reflect classic home cooking. Expect simple, warming dishes like mince and onion pie, chicken and vegetable hotpot, or cheese and mushroom quiche, priced to suit a quick lunch rather than an elaborate dining experience. The jacket potato bar is another reliable choice for a filling, no-nonsense meal. Portion sizes tend to satisfy those looking for substantial comfort food, though vegetable sides have been noted to be a bit modest in quality.

The staff here stand out – people working long shifts or those visiting loved ones find the staff attentive and friendly, often going beyond just serving food to offering a sense of normalcy and kindness in a stressful setting. This human touch reinforces Pat’s Place as more than just a cafe; it acts as a small community hub for hospital workers and visitors alike.

If you’re passing by during a mid-morning coffee break or midday meal, you’ll find Pat’s Place an easy and familiar option, especially on weekdays when hospital activity is at its peak. While those expecting a refined or culinary inspired menu might be disappointed, anyone after straightforward, warm food in a quiet, approachable setting will feel at home here.

I recently spent some time at Scarborough Hospital and found myself visiting Pat’s Place more than once. It was such a welcome spot during what could have been a stressful time. The atmosphere is warm and relaxed, and it felt like a little escape from the hospital wards. The staff were incredibly friendly — they didn’t just serve food, they genuinely cared, taking the time to chat and offer a smile. That made a big difference and helped lift the mood. The food itself was surprisingly good for a hospital café. There was a nice choice of hot meals, sandwiches, snacks, and drinks, and everything I tried was fresh and well-prepared. The prices were fair too, which was a relief when visiting more than once in a day. I also noticed how clean and tidy everything was. The seating area was comfortable, with plenty of space, and I felt at ease just sitting with a coffee while gathering my thoughts. If there was one small downside, it’s that Pat’s Place isn’t open on weekends — I really wished it had been, because it quickly became my go-to place during the week.

What a fabulous cafe! Lovely staff, serving good quality tasty (hot) food which offers great value for money (each item individually priced). Sausage, bacon, 2 hash browns, black pudding, toast, beans & a cappuccino for £4.45. Plenty of room between seating. Windows open for good ventilation. Absolutely excellent.

Good food, cheap. Better than you would expect for the price.
